Position Title: Intern – Business Analyst
Department: Software Development (Technology Directorate)
Reports to: Manager – Product Owner
Job Purpose
The Intern Business Analyst will support the Software Development team in analysing business processes, gathering requirements, documenting information, and assisting with the delivery of digital solutions. Working under the guidance of experienced Business Analyst, the intern will gain practical exposure to Agile delivery methodologies, stakeholder engagement, requirements management, and software development lifecycles. The intern will also work closely with developers and other cross-functional team members to understand technical requirements, support solution delivery, and gain insight into the software development process.
This role provides an opportunity to develop analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills whilst contributing to projects aimed at improving organisational processes and services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in capturing business requirements and documenting specifications through collaboration with stakeholders across the Authority.
- Support the analysis and documentation of business processes, workflows, and requirements.
- Participate in requirements gathering sessions, workshops, meetings, and stakeholder discussions.
- Support the creation and maintenance of user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, and functional documentation.
- Support software testing activities, including the preparation and execution of test scenarios, test cases, and user acceptance testing activities.
- Assist in the preparation of release notes, user guides, and other supporting project documentation.
- Maintain project documentation and ensure that relevant artefacts are kept up to date.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement and increased operational efficiency.
- Develop an understanding of the Authority's core business processes, systems, and services.
- Perform any other duties commensurate with the role as may be required from time to time.
Technical/Professional Expertise
- Currently pursuing a degree (MQF Level 6 or equivalent) in Information Technology, Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrates an interest in business analysis, software development, digital transformation, and process improvement.
- Basic understanding of business processes and information systems.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a structured manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, process modelling techniques, Microsoft Dynamics, or Microsoft Power Platform will be considered an asset.
