Overview

Position Title: Intern - Policy
Department: Policy & International Affairs
Reports to: Chief Officer - Policy & International Affairs

 

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a Policy Intern to assist in the policy development process of the Malta Gaming Authority, including developing new regulatory policies and analysing and updating existing ones. The Policy Intern shall be assisting the Policy department in ensuring policy recommendations are evidence-based and data-driven.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The Policy Intern’s duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist in planning and executing the development of regulatory policies, including conducting background research, cross-jurisdictional analysis and assisting in carrying out of consultations;
  • Assist in the drafting of new policies, implementing amendments to policies, position papers, memos and submitting proposals for review;
  • Perform research and horizon scanning on important trends or developments in order to develop informed opinions about potential courses of action;
  • Look into Maltese and European legislation and identify possible impacts of policy changes on the local framework and the gaming industry;
  • Keep abreast with all international and local developments conducive to the MGA’s regulatory functions;
  • Assist in maintaining a well-coordinated Outreach plan for the MGA, which shall include keeping close contact with other Government entities, regulators and licensees, both at local and international level;
  • Assist in collaborating closely with international gambling regulators, industry players, Government authorities and departments and to maintain constant channels of communication;
  • Carry out such other duties and functions as may be assigned.

Technical/Professional Expertise:

  • Reading for a degree in law, public policy, economics, communications, or a related field;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, in particular Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Team player with strong ability to contribute positively to a team environment;
  • Takes ownership, actions, and manages to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of the Maltese gambling framework shall be considered an asset;
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and changing environment.
